Remodeling Your Kitchen – Think White

Roseville, Calif. – In my job as a Realtor, I see lots of kitchens, so I know how easy it is to get swept along with trends.  Going along with what is in vogue may lead you to regret your decisions a few years later.

Let’s face it; chances are you are only going to remodel your current kitchen once.  The national median cost for a kitchen remodel is $60,000 according to remodeling impact report from the National Association of Realtors.  If you are going to spend that much money, you want to make the right decisions especially since, if you resell, you can recover about two thirds of your investment.

There are a number of features you should give careful consideration to including, flooring, cabinet style, countertops, backsplash, design and planning for the unknown.  Today I want to discuss color.

From my perspective as a Realtor, white is the most marketable color.  It has always been the leader on the annual survey of most popular kitchen colors done by the National Kitchen and Bath Association.  It just does not go out of style!

White has always been associated with happiness, purity and new beginnings.  It is a bright color what reflects light and makes small kitchens feel larger.  It is great color for cleanliness, dirt has not place to hide.  In addition, it is good for our budget as it is a standard color of manufacturers.  You can easily find white, tile, counters, sinks, faucets, cabinets and appliances at any price point.

With a white kitchen theme, you can be conservative or expressive by adding your own touch.  This could include showing off items on open shelves or in cabinets with glass fronts.  You may want to add color with glass pulls and knobs and finally paint walls with the color of your choice.  With a white kitchen you can change your mind about paint color at anytime and the white basics will make any color you choose look fresh and current.

Remember what they say, “kitchens sell houses.”
