The annual ‘Run Rocklin’ will be held Sunday, April 20 at Johnson-Springview Park in Rocklin.
This signature city event begins with a 5K Run at 8 a.m, followed by a 12K Run/Walk at 8:15 a.m. Kids may participate free in the quarter-mile Kids Fun Run at 7:45 a.m.
There will be food, music, and prizes at the finish line, making this race a true community event. Food will include pizza and other delicious treats.
Trophies and prize money will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. All participants will receive a commemorative, performance T-shirt.
An ambitious goal is 2008 participants for the fun run and walk, which once again benefits the Matt Redding Scholarship Foundation. A year ago, Run Rocklin raised $10,000 for the Foundation.
A popular Rocklin Police Officer, Redding tragically died while on duty in October, 2005 when he was struck and killed by a vehicle that was allegedly driven by an intoxicated driver.
“Matt loved this community and would be so pleased that people were running in a race that supported a scholarship foundation in his name,’ said John Redding, Matt’s father. ‘We were extremely pleased last year that so many people supported Run Rocklin. It is a great community event and we’re happy the Redding family can be associated with it.’
Osborne has a son who is a Rocklin Police Officer and has a personal connection with the Redding family.
‘Although I didn’t know Matt personally, I know from what other people have told me that he was a wonderful man, dedicated police officer, and loved this community,’ said Osborne, a police officer for the City of Berkeley in the early 1970s. ‘The community embraced our event last year and really helped us make a generous contribution in Matt Redding’s memory. We’re hoping the same thing happens this year.’
Adults can pre-register for $27 prior to race day and the cost increases to $35 on the day of the run. Kids 18-under can pre-register for $15; cost is $20 on race day. Teams of six or more people are welcome as well.Â
