Anthony J. La Bouff, currently County Counsel for Placer County, was appointed Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors to serve a four-year term as County Counsel.
In closed session, the Board of Supervisor appointed Mr. La Bouff, implementing a newly-enacted amendment to the County Charter. Measure ‘S’, which was approved by the voters at the November 4, 2008 General Election, amended Section 507 of the Placer County Charter, setting a new process to appoint the County Counsel.
Previously the County Counsel had been appointed by the Board of Supervisors without a fixed term of office and subject to removal at the Board”s pleasure. Measure S amended the appointment process to conform to the state statutory provisions, changing the Board appointment from at-will appointment to a four-year term of office. Once the County Counsel serves the four year term, this appointment may be renewed at the Board’s pleasure. The amendment also set forth a process for removal of a County Counsel during the four-year period.
Mr. La Bouff has been with the County Counsel’s office for over 25 years, and has served as the County Counsel since 1995.
