District Attorney Jan Scully today announced the approval of an arrest warrant for 35-year-old Sean Julian Lewis, a police officer with the City of Sacramento Police Department.
The evidence establishes that Lewis and the victim, a former dating partner, agreed for Lewis to take $50,000 from the victim so that she could then qualify for public assistance, with the understanding that Lewis would return the funds later. On January 11th, the victim gave Lewis the $50,000 in cash while he was on-duty and in uniform. He then went to his own bank with the money, but left without depositing it.
Within one day, the victim changed her mind and asked for her money back. Lewis returned approximately $30,000, then lied to the victim, telling her the rest of the money had been garnished to pay back child support.
Lewis is charged with one count of felony grand theft, which carries a potential sentence of up to three-years in state prison.
