SACRAMENTO Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, today issued the following statement in response to the outcome of Tuesday’s special election:
‘The voters have spoken and their message is clear they do not want to pay higher taxes,’ Gaines said. ‘They want Sacramento and the Legislature to do what they have had to do, tighten their own belts to make ends meet.’

‘Since I was first elected in 2006, I have not voted for a single budget due to the structural deficit we have faced and continue to deal with,’ Gaines said. ‘I made a commitment not to increase taxes and put Sacramento’s wasteful negligence on the backs of hard-working Californians. And I will continue to hold the line on new taxes and fight bloated government. ‘
‘The time is now for the Legislature to step up and produce the solutions Californians want and need,’ Gaines said. ‘And I stand ready to work across party lines to start crafting the fair and realistic budget solutions for California that will protect taxpayers from paying more to bail out Sacramento for years of over spending.’
