Auburn, Calif. – Thanks to additional funding, Seniors First will soon expand a program established to provide homebound seniors with hot meals and daily social interaction.
MyMeals, the most recent addition to the extensive list of senior-focused services offered by Seniors First, is a subscription-based meal program targeted to homebound seniors and those recuperating from recent illness, hospitalization or convalescence. With tremendous success during the initial pilot program in the city of Lincoln, and with the generous support of a recent grant from Placer Community Foundation, the program will now also be able to serve the residents of Roseville, Rocklin, and Auburn.

Through Placer Community Foundation, the Leo W. Ryan and Geraldine Suskin Community Fund granted $2,500 to Seniors First to expand MyMeals. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this level of service to our clients. We know there is tremendous need and we are now able to better serve homebound seniors in the community and individuals who are temporarily confined. We are especially grateful to our local community foundation for their efforts in supporting MyMeals,” commented Seniors First Executive Director Jamee Horning.
This grant offsets the cost of the meals and delivery and partially subsidizes service for low-income subscribers in the communities of Lincoln and Auburn. Meals are delivered hot, Monday thru Friday (except for holidays) by trained volunteers. Anyone of any age may purchase meals; however, the program specifically targets homebound seniors who are 60 years of age and older.
In addition, with guidance from Sacramento Region Community Foundation, $13,970 was awarded by the Paul & Eleanore G. Ziegelmaier Endowment Fund to sustain the cornerstone of Seniors First’s Senior Nutrition Program, Senior Cafes, which provide hot meals to the elderly five days a week. Seniors are encouraged to attend any of the eight neighborhood site locations for fresh, healthy and flavorful meals that are prepared and served in accordance with federal nutritional guidelines for seniors. Meals are offered on a free-will donation basis with a suggested donation of $3. However, those unable to make a donation are always welcome.
Besides nutritional value, the Cafés also provide social interaction for its guests. With many guests living alone and at risk of isolation, sometimes a visit to a Café is the only social interaction of the day. Cafés are cozy and inviting with comfortable furnishings and staffed by welcoming volunteers.
Seniors First is always in need of friendly, dedicated volunteers and financial support to underwrite programs and services for Placer County’s elderly and their families.
