The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has appointed a deputy to deal with chronic crime problems in the north Auburn area.
Deputy Zach Poiesz was selected as the new problem-oriented policing (POP) deputy, which is a specialized position created last year to deal with a range of community problems and crime prevention. That includes dealing with homeless and transient-related issues that are prevalent in north Auburn.
Poiesz is a lifelong Placer County resident and has spent his entire career at the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. He has a diversified background, having worked in most every division, including seven years on the drug task force. Poiesz has worked closely with the homeless population in north Auburn for the past year. He will be addressing a wide variety of problems such as vandalism, trespassing, theft, and everyday nuisances that interfere with the community’s quality of life.
Poiesz will partner with various agencies to problem-solve these issues. Those agencies include Placer County Facility Services, Placer County Code Enforcement, Planning Department and building inspectors; Cal Fire arson investigators and other fire departments; Children’s Services; the District Attorney’s Office; and Placer County Probation Department and State Parole agents. He will also work with PG&E, PCWA, Nevada Irrigation District, Auburn Recreation District and business and homeowners’ associations.
Deputy Poiesz will be personally providing the new Sheriff’s Office business packets to businesses in north Auburn and the Bowman area.
