A Foresthill man and his son were rescued early this morning after they became lost while deer hunting near Duncan Peak Sunday.
James Dalton, 37, and his son Mason, 15, went hunting with another man and his son, and then purposely separated. The other man was supposed to reunite with the Daltons late Sunday afternoon in the Robinson Flat area. When the Daltons failed to show up, the friend called for help.
Placer County Sheriff’s search and rescue teams, about 30 personnel total, took part in the rescue. Teams of hikers, motorcycles, 4-wheel-drive vehicles and mountain rescuers scoured the rugged, mountainous area that was wet, muddy and had a dusting of snow.
Around 1 a.m., they heard shouts from the stranded men. Rescuers found the men some time later, who were very cold and wet. They had bedded down on plastic bags. After providing warm, dry clothing and a warm drink, rescuers walked the pair to safety, arriving at the Robinson Flat area at 5:30 this morning.
