Former Warrior Drafted in NBA D-League Draft

Rocklin, Calif. – Former William Jessup University standout basketball player Zach Sowers was selected in the recent NBA Development League Draft.  Sowers was drafted in the eighth round by the Erie BayHawks.

A year ago, Sowers became the first Warrior to be named honorable mention NAIA All-America.  He received the honor after leading William Jessup with 17.8 points and 7 rebounds a game. Sowers shot 47 percent from beyond the 3-point line, which ranked him seventh in the country in NAIA Division II.  He was also named first-team All-California Pacific Conference and led the Warriors to their best conference record in school history with a 13-3 record.

‘Zach Sowers is just a great basketball player because he works so hard and wants to be really good,’ Warriors head coach Aaron Muhic said. ‘I know that he will be successful in whatever he does because he has such a great attitude and knows what it takes to be successful.  The funny thing is I think he has a great upside because he has really only played one year of college basketball, so I know he will get better and better with more experience.’

Zowers, who played high school basketball with the Sacramento Kings Kevin Martin at Zanesville High School in Ohio, is hoping to land a spot on the BayHawks’ 10-man roster. A Pennsylvania expansion team a year ago, the BayHawks posted a 27-23 record in their inaugural season.

‘It is an honor to be drafted to the NBDL,’ Zach Sowers said. ‘I am grateful for the opportunity God has given me to play at such a high level.  I owe a lot to my coaches and teammates at William Jessup University, who helped develop my game and become the person I am today. There is a lot of hard work ahead, but I am just taking one day at a time.’

The NBA D-League draft featured eight rounds, with each of the league’s 16 teams selecting eight players. Final rosters will set by Nov. 25 and the league will begin its ninth season on Nov. 27.
