A new warning system that offers crime victims and other concerned citizens access to timely and reliable information and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day is now available. The service is provided by the Placer County Sheriff’s Department as a service of the California State Sheriffs’ Association.
Victim Information and Notification Everyday, or VINE, is a free, anonymous telephone service that provides information and notification when custody status changes. Custody status changes include release, escape, transfer, unsupervised status, home incarceration and work release. to enter a Personal Identification Number, or PIN, for use during notification.

If you’re not home or your line is busy when a custody change occurs, the VINE service will keep trying to reach you. VINE will continue to call every half-hour for 24 hours. V.I.N.E. will leave a message on an answering machine, but will continue to call every two hours up to a 24- hour period until a PIN is entered to stop the notification calls. Since VINE calls automatically when an offender’s custody status changes, notification calls may come in the middle of the night.
The VINE service is designed to provide quick and easy access to offender information and to alert when an offender’s custody status changes. It is recommended, however, not to depend solely on VINE or any other single program for your safety.
