Rocklin, Calif. -Granite Oaks Middle School principal Michael Melton has accepted a position in the Bay Area to help the Menlo Park City School District create a new middle school. Below are Principal Melton’s unedited comments on his upcoming endeavor and reflection of his time at Granite Oaks. Â
“Eleven years ago, this community gave me the great privilege to create a new middle school for the student’s of Rocklin. This was an incredible honor for me personally and I enjoyed the challenge that came with the development of a new school. Now the community of the Menlo Park City School District has asked me to be the principal of Hillview Middle School and build a new campus.”
“The Menlo Park City School District is a small district of 2500 students covering the cities of Menlo Park and Atherton. The community is asking me to build a new middle school that will replace the old Hillview campus built in the 1950’s. They are looking to integrate a new academic model using the latest technologies available to create a 21st century school. This is a new and exciting opportunity for me to once again build a new school and develop a new education program.”
“It was a very hard decision to leave Rocklin and Granite Oaks Middle School. Over the past 11 years, I have had a tremendous amount of support. Granite Oaks is a successful school, because of the great support we have received from the board of trustees, our superintendent, and this great Rocklin community. I believe that the Granite Oaks’ staff has created a wonderful learning environment for our students. The community can be proud of the school that they have developed.. It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to have been a part of such an outstanding district and community. I will miss you all. Â Sincerely, Michael Melton”
