Gregory Murphy new Sierra College District Chief of Police

Rocklin, Calif – – On Tuesday, January 13, 2009 during the regularly scheduled Board of Trustee’s meeting, Officer Greg Murphy took the oath office to assume the position as Chief of Police for the Sierra Community College District.

As a testament to his achievements, an impressive list of law enforcement officials traveled from areas throughout the state and out of the state to Rocklin to witness his swearing-in.  Said Superintendent/President Dr. Leo Chavez following the event, ‘We would like to thank Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner and Rocklin Police Chief Mark Siemens and also the many peace officers and officials from our neighboring cities and counties who joined us today in a great display of support and respect for Greg. We are excited to have someone with Greg’s experience and expertise join Sierra College. We are doubly pleased that he is also a long-standing Rocklin resident. We look forward to his leadership in advancing the capabilities of the college’s Police Services.’

Greg Murphy comes to the job with over sixteen years of patrol, investigative and administrative experience to draw from. With a BS from Park University, Parkville MO and a MS from AIU, LA, CA, Murphy began his career patrolling the streets of East LA. He advanced through the ranks to become a proven leader, trainer, and policy developer. In his most recent position as a Law Enforcement Consultant for POST – The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, Murphy received a letter of commendation in 2007 for the development and implementation of the POST Electronic Data Interchange Course Certification Online Program, which is disturbed statewide.

Whether as a law enforcer or as a teacher, working at a higher education institution is nothing new to Chief Murphy. He has taught Criminal Justice courses for National University, University of Phoenix, Los Angeles City Colleges, Los Rios Community College District and Sierra College. Murphy also worked as a Police Lieutenant for the University of California, Davis Police Department.

Along with his excellent police work, his proficiency in computer technologies has helped him develop and implement criminal databases, crime analysis systems and record management systems. Currently a Rocklin resident, Greg Murphy commented ‘I am so thrilled to be here, I hope I can contribute a great deal to the growth of the police department.’
