Highway 65 Lincoln Bypass: Next Phase Ribbon Cutting

SourcePCTPA

Lincoln, Calif.- The Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) will host the ribbon cutting celebration for the next phase of the Highway 65 Lincoln Bypass on Friday June 20th at 9:00 a.m.

Festivities begin at 9:00 am with official remarks and a ceremonial ribbon cutting.  At 10:15 am representatives from the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and other local chamber of commerce organizations will hold a special ribbon cutting in recognition of the economic development opportunities now accessible along the corridor.  The ceremony will be located at the new southbound Highway 65 lanes at W. Wise Road.  Following the ceremony, crews will begin a weekend-long series of activities to open the new section of the Bypass to traffic by Monday morning.

“PCTPA is very excited to open this phase of the Lincoln Bypass project,” said Celia McAdam, Executive Director of the PCTPA.  “The Lincoln Bypass has been an economic driver for the cities of Lincoln, Roseville and Rocklin and this phase of the project continues to open opportunities for better access and connections to housing, jobs and shopping.”

Decades of Planning

The Lincoln Bypass opened to traffic in October 2012 after more than 20 years of planning.  The 11.7 mile Bypass begins at Industrial Boulevard, moves traffic around the City of Lincoln, and connects back to the existing Highway 65 near Sheridan.  This next phase of the project converts 6.6 miles of two lane highway, from Nelson Lane to north of W. Wise Road, to four lanes of median separated highway (2 in each direction).  The additional median separated lanes improve mobility and increase safety for motorists traveling along the Bypass.

The Bypass will improve regional connections between residential areas, employment centers, and major commercial centers.  In addition to improving interregional goods movement and reducing congestion, the Bypass will improve safety and traffic mobility and address current and future travel demands between the City of Lincoln and the town of Sheridan.

“We understand how important providing safe, efficient and accessible transportation facilities are to the local economy,” said McAdam.  “Unfortunately, the federal and state government funding sources we’ve relied on in the past have dried up.  As we plan for upcoming projects we will be engaging the Placer community on the best strategies to build our own future.”

Completion of this phase of the project was accomplished through partnerships between the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency, Caltrans, the City of Lincoln, Placer County, the South Placer Regional Transportation Authority, and the federal government.
