Rocklin, Calif.- In the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 16, Rocklin Police received a burglar alarm call at Quik Stop Market, 2850 Sunset Blvd. Within minutes officers arrived to find that one of the front glass doors had been heavily damaged with a large rock but not enough for entry to be made into the business.
The store’s owner and two associates arrived and were able to review the video surveillance with officers. The video showed a male approximately 5’8″ tall, with a medium build, wearing a white baseball cap with a black bill, grey polo shirt and brown cargo shorts attempting to break the glass door with the large rock. Several rock throws and elbow punches later, the glass door still was not completely broken. The suspect then left the front door area.
As officers searched the immediate area for the suspect, the store’s owner and associates remained behind to wait for the door to be boarded and secured.
Rocklin Police Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from the Quik Stop Market soon thereafter advising that a male subject matching the description of the suspect that was seen in the video had just been at the closed business asking for cigarettes. The subject took off running as store owner and one of the associates gave pursuit. They overcame the subject and he was detained until police arrived seconds later.
Officers verified that the description of the suspect trying to break into the store was a match to the surveillance video and arrested the subject.
Christopher Eastwood, 18 years, transient, was arrested for felony vandalism and was booked into the Placer County Jail. He is being held on $15,000 bail.
“When a suspect returns to the scene of the crime shortly after it occurred, it can certainly make our job easier,” said Captain Lon Milka of the Rocklin Police Department.
