Indigenous Peoples Days in Rocklin

Rocklin, Calif. – The Third Annual Indigenous Peoples Days celebration will occur at Sierra College Monday, March 14th through Saturday, March19th.

Native scholars, tribal leaders, artists, dancers, healers and educators will gather at the Rocklin campus to promote and celebrate the revitalization of local Native American cultures, a historic trend relevant in California and around the world.

Sierra College invites the public to attend presentations, performances and workshops meant to inform, inspire and empower.  The celebration is also a Yomen Weda, meaning Spring feast in the Maidu language, and will involve celebrating as much as educating throughout the week.  More than twenty distinct activities will examine this year’s theme, healing through decolonization, in the context of art, history, identity, poetry, curriculum, storytelling, tribal leadership, gender, land, cultural preservation, music, theatre, medicine and more.  All events are free to the public.

The final day of the event, Saturday, March 19th, will be the Big Time-a Native Californian gathering alive with drumming, dancing, singing, storytelling, games and ceremony.  An Indian Art Market with regionally and nationally celebrated Native craftspeople will be in full-swing during the celebration.  The closing reception on Saturday evening at the Maidu Museum and Historic Site in Roseville will allow one last opportunity to socialize and reflect.

There is a $3 parking fee on campus. Permits can be purchased at dispensers located throughout the parking lot.
