Irresponsible state budget says Gaines

Sacramento, Calif. -– Calling it an irresponsible state budget that will push a deficit of billions into next year, Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, voted against the budget plan early Friday following a marathon session at the Capitol.

‘The simple reality is that Sacramento cannot do what hard-working taxpayers elected us to do – pass an on-time, balanced budget that Californians deserve,’ Gaines said. ‘While I’m pleased to see the majority party has finally listened to Californians and presented a plan that won’t increase taxes on families, this destructive plan still includes hidden fees and only pushes the problem down the road and guarantees next year’s budget will be even worse.’

Gaines said that California’s $19 billion budget deficit already includes a $7.7 billion shortfall from last fiscal year. This year’s budget plan relies on federal money that may never come, and makes assumptions about revenues that California likely won’t see for years down the road.

Gaines said the budget needs to go further to ensure the state will live within its means preventing future budget catastrophes.

Assemblyman Ted Gaines represents the 4th Assembly District, which includes portions of Placer, El Dorado, Sacramento & Alpine Counties.
