Lincoln, Calif.- Two Lincoln residents are facing assault and other charges following a fight where a shotgun was fired four times in an Auburn motel late Sunday night.
Placer County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Super 8 Motel in Auburn just before midnight Sunday for several reports that shots had been fired in a room there. When deputies arrived, all of the involved parties had fled. Based on information supplied by witnesses, Placer County dispatchers broadcasted a vehicle description. Moments later, a deputy spotted the fleeing vehicle turning onto Bell Road from Bowman Road.

Inside the vehicle were Zane Aaron Davis, 28, and his half-sister Ruthie Ann Barnes, 20. Also inside the vehicle, deputies found a shotgun and Davis’ pocket full of shotgun shells. Barnes said she went to the motel with her ex-boyfriend, Andres Lopez, 36, who supplied her with drugs. She told deputies that she called Davis to come and get her when she feared Lopez wouldn’t let her leave. Davis arrived and shot out the room’s window and entered. A fight ensued between the two men and the shotgun fired three more times.
Deputies began searching for the victim, Lopez, who left his car at the motel and whom they felt may have been injured in the fight. He had left his vehicle at the motel. Around 8:15 a.m. Monday, a deputy went to Colfax on a hunch that Lopez may be taking the bus or train from Colfax to Reno, where he has lived previously. Sitting on a bench in front of the Greyhound station, holding a bus ticket in his hand, was Lopez. He had a large amount of blood on his clothing and had suffered a large cut to his hand and pellet wounds to his leg. He was transported to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital for treatment.
Further investigation revealed that Barnes and Davis set Lopez up so they could rob him at the motel. They have both been charged with attempted robbery, conspiracy and assault with a firearm. Barnes was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and hypodermic needles, possession of brass knuckles and bringing drugs into the jail.
Davis and Barnes are being held at the Placer County Jail without bail. They are scheduled to be arraigned today. Once Lopez received medical treatment, he was booked into jail for an outstanding burglary warrant from San Diego County and subsequently released
