Rocklin, Calif.- Two prominent players from the William Jessup University men’s basketball team were named this week to the all-California Pacific Conference team.
Sacramento High product Joseph Mitchell was a first-team selection and making the second team was Lucas Birchard of Lodi. The selections were made by the conference’s head coaches.
Mitchell is a forward who led the Warriors in both scoring (15.2) and rebounding (9.9) this season. A senior, he is the first William Jessup player to be named a first-team pick in the conference.
A sophomore guard, Birchard averaged 12.8 points and nearly six rebounds a game for the Warriors, who had a 17-12 overall record and went 11-5 in the Cal Pac. William Jessup reached the semifinals of the conference championships, losing to Simpson 80-68.
“It has been a huge honor to watch Joseph and Lucas develop as basketball players, but more importantly it has been fun to watch them buy into the team concept,’ William Jessup coach Aaron Muhic said. ‘They are good teammates as well as good basketball players.’
