New roads and bridge to help with casino traffic

Lincoln, Calif.- To mitigate the effects on traffic from the Thunder Valley Casino and to improve traffic circulation in the Sunset Industrial area north of Roseville, the United Auburn Indian Community (UAIC) agreed to provide funding for new road construction and road improvements near its casino. Two roads, a bridge, a traffic signal and intersection improvements have been completed in the unincorporated area of Placer County, between Roseville and Lincoln.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors, at it regular Feb. 20, 2007 meeting, unanimously approved two resolutions regarding the roadways. One resolution names a new section of road; the other accepts the roads into the County Maintained Mileage System.

A half-mile extension and bridge were made to Sunset Boulevard, including the intersection upgrades at Sunset Boulevard and Cincinnati Avenue. A new 1.5-mile section of road, now named Foothills Boulevard North, was also part of the infrastructure improvement.

“This new roadway and the adjacent improvements were all possible due to a landmark agreement between the UAIC and the county,” said County Supervisor Robert Weygandt, whose District 2 includes the area where the road improvements were made. “The improvements are a greatly needed transportation enhancement for the region and I’d like to thank the Tribe for funding the entire project and being a strong community partner.”

The Indian Community agreed to construct improvements away from the casino in anticipation of increased traffic levels from gaming patrons. However the improvements will benefit the entire Sunset Industrial Area.

“The Tribe is committed to being an active and responsible community partner,” said UAIC Tribal Chairwoman Jessica Tavares. “The new roads and bridge will provide more routes for those traveling through South Placer County. We are grateful for the unique partnership between the county and the Tribe, and look forward to other projects that will enhance life for residents in Placer County.”
