Rocklin, Calif. –Â Sierra College softball assistant coach Brett Magorian is the 2016 recipient of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Assistant Coach of the Year award, the NFCA announced September 8.
Magorian joined head coach Darci Brownell’s staff in 2013 as a volunteer assistant after heading the Folsom High School softball program for two years. Magorian works with Wolverine infielders and hitters and was a key part of Sierra’s 2014 state championship. His passion for softball and Sierra College has served him well in his four years as Brownell’s chief recruiter.
Magorian’s impact on the Sierra program extends beyond the playing field, as he was instrumental in soliciting donations for and the construction of a Wolverine team room with personalized lockers and the walkways and landscaping of the Wolverine Softball Complex.
According to Brownell, “He is truly my right-hand man. My job has drastically changed and become easier since Brett joined our staff. Our program, facility and legacy have changed since Brett was hired.”
Brett is married to fellow Wolverine assistant coach and former Sierra player, Cortney Magorian. They are the parents of two future Wolverines, Kennedie (12) and Rylee (11).
The NFCA annually awards coaches from six NFCA membership levels: NCAA Div. 1, NCAA Div. 2, NCAA Div. 3, NAIA, Cal JC and High School. The efforts of these coaches are saluted for “their tireless dedication to the sport of softball and to the continued education, growth and development of young women, both on and off the playing field.”
