Placer County Nonprofits Boosted by BIG Day

Overwhelming generosity in our region

Auburn, Calif. -The BIG Day of Giving on May 5th was a day of overwhelming generosity in our region.

In 24 hours, an estimated $5,613,799 was raised for 529 regional nonprofits including gifts of over $850,000* to 111 Placer County nonprofits.

A pool of incentive funds and prize challenges helped to leverage each of the 36,531 donations. The BIG Day of Giving was led by a partnership between Placer Community Foundation, Sacramento Region Community Foundation, and Yolo Community Foundation. Veronica Blake, CEO of Placer Community Foundation, stated, “It is wonderful to see such strong support of local nonprofits that are doing essential, diverse work to make our community healthy and connected.”

Placer Land Trust raised $127,541, the most out of all the participating groups this year. They also won 7 prizes, which added $7,250 to their total earned. With these unrestricted contributions, they will build trails for public use, protect local land, and restore wildlife habitats in Placer County.  Seniors First won one of the Golden 1 Credit Union Golden Ticket prize challenges when a donor to their organization made the 10,000th donation of the day.

Wellness Within also had a highly successful day, and their 213 gifts equaled $28,181 which will support their mission is to provide a healing oasis for patients, survivors, caregivers, and families affected by cancer. Roseville Theater Arts Academy hosted a 24 hour webcast for their donors and ended the day with over $25,000 in gifts. “This was our second year participating in the BIG Day and we were thrilled to surpass our goal. This giving challenge has replaced our annual fundraising event and it helped us almost entirely reach our fundraising goal for the year,” Michelle Raskey, Executive Director, shared.

The BIG Day of Giving began in Placer County with a kick-off event at Westfield Galleria at Roseville where 40 Placer organizations gathered for a nonprofit fair and celebration. Later in the day, the Ripple Effect hosted a Cinco de Mayo themed fiesta with 25 nonprofit booths at the Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center. Both events provided a space for nonprofits to share their missions and work with the community. Overall, the day was a major success and brought well deserved recognition and contributions to the nonprofit sector.
