Placer County Water Agency Updates September 2015

SourcePCWA

Auburn, Calif. – At their September 17 meeting in Tahoe Vista, Calif., Board Directors of the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) approved an agreement to transfer the Agency’s eastern water system in the Martis Valley near Truckee (Zone 4) to Northstar Community Services District (NCSD).  Zone 4 utilizes groundwater to supply approximately 600 customers.

“The transfer of the Zone 4 system is truly in the best interest of our customers,” PCWA General Manager, Einar Maisch said. “I’d like to thank the staff of NCSD for their diligence throughout this process. They have, and will continue to be, an important partner to the Agency. We look forward to a smooth transition.”

The agreement establishes October 1, 2015, as the date NCSD will take ownership and full operational responsibility. NCSD has been providing PCWA with operational and maintenance support on the eastern water system for more than six years.

The Placer County Local Agency Formation Commission approved the transfer in July.

BOARD HOLDS ANNUAL TAHOE MEETING

The North Tahoe Public Utility District hosted the September 17 meeting. California’s top drinking water official, Cindy Forbes, Deputy Director of the State Water Resource Control Board’s Division of Drinking Water, addressed public water system compliance issues, which is of particular concern with small water systems. Consolidation of water agencies and State funding programs available to agencies were also discussed. In June, California passed a law allowing the State Water Board to require water systems within disadvantaged communities that consistently fail to provide safe drinking water to consolidate with, or receive an extension of service from, another public water system.

Representatives from the North Tahoe Public Utility District, Tahoe City Public Utility District, Squaw Valley Public Services District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District and Northstar Community Services District also provided reports to the Board.

The next regular meeting of the PCWA Board of Directors will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, 2:00 PM at the PCWA Business Center, 144 Ferguson Road, in Auburn. PCWA Board meetings are open to the public.

Information on PCWA Board meetings may be obtained through the Clerk to the Board at (530) 823-4850 or (800) 464-0030.
