National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the largest premier advocacy organizations for women and the sorority experience, today announces that it has awarded $4,000 in scholarship money to three college students who are connected to NPC and some of its fraternal organizations.
The 2014 recipients include Madaly Alcala of San Pedro, Calif., Amber Speciale of Rocklin, Calif., and Jordyn Baker of Chillicothe, Ohio.
The NPC Foundation reviewed more than 62 young women for this year’s scholarship applications and selected the following three students:
Madaly Alcala is the recipient of The Alpha Phi/Betty Mullins Jones Scholarship, awarded annually to a collegiate Panhellenic woman who has worked to further her fraternal community’s reputation on her campus and who embodies the values of sisterhood, philanthropy and scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a woman who makes a difference in sorority life by serving on her college Panhellenic. Alcala is a sophomore at UC Berkeley majoring in Molecular Environmental Biology with a minor in Conservation and Resources studies. She is a sorority member of Alpha Phi.
Amber Speciale is the recipient of The Elizabeth Ahlemeyer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholarship. Speciale will receive $2,000 in scholarship funds for being a collegiate member in good standing of one of NPC’s member groups. For this particular scholarship, nomination is required by College Panhellenic and the nominee must have displayed outstanding service to her local college Panhellenic. The academic requirements include a minimum 3.0 GPA and plans to enroll as a full-time junior or senior for the upcoming academic year. Majoring in Communication Design and Media Arts with a minor in Broadcast News and Instructional Design, Speciale is a junior at California State University where she is also a member of the sorority Alpha Gamma Delta.
Jordyn Baker is the recipient of The Mary Louis Roller scholarship, awarded to an undergraduate woman who plans to attend graduate school the following fall. As a recipient, Jordyn will receive $1,000 for displaying outstanding service to her local College Panhellenic during her undergraduate years. Baker is a senior at Wittenberg University where she is a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She’s majoring in Communication with minors in Women’s Studies and Psychology.
“As collegiate women who are closely connected with NPC and its organizations, we are pleased to be in a position to offer multiple scholarships year after year to these deserving individuals,” said Janet Dodson, president of National Panhellenic Conference Foundation. “We cannot express our gratitude enough for these Greek-affiliated women who are role models on and off campus and exude bright futures.”
