Rocklin police arrest suspected car burglar

On Wednesday, November 17, 2011 at about 4:00 am, an alert Rocklin Patrol Officer noticed a suspicious car driving in a residential neighborhood near Penninsula Dr. and Wildcat.

The driver quickly pulled into a driveway and abandoned his vehicle. He was last seen near the side of a residence and then disappeared. The officer contacted the homeowner who said that the vehicle did not belong there and no visitor was expected at the residence at this time in the morning. A back yard search of several residences in the area was conducted but the male was not located.

A short time later Police were notified by a citizen that a male was seen walking on a street near where officers were looking. Officers drove to the area and contacted the subject who turned out to be the same person who abandoned his vehicle earlier. He was found to be on probation and a search of his person yielded stolen property from a vehicle burglary out of Roseville that occurred earlier in the week. A search of the vehicle was performed and numerous “shaved keys” were located along with more stolen property from numerous vehicle burglaries, which had occurred earlier in the week, in several surrounding cities.

Officers arrested Daniel Wayne Phillips, 34, from Antelope and charged him with 466 PC: Possession of Burglary Tools and 496(A) PC: Possession of Stolen Property.

Phillips was booked into Placer County Jail.

The Rocklin Police Department is considering this to be an active, ongoing investigation due to the number of victims and potential victims yet to be located and based on the amount of stolen property located in the suspect’s vehicle. Reference Case No. 11-321-2
