Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, joined local and state officials at a ceremony in Roseville to help break ground on the third and final phase of the “Roseville Bottleneck” widening project, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.
Before this project started, Placer County motorists were forced to endure some of the worst traffic in the region because our overcrowded highways have not been expanded over the years to keep up with our growing population,’ Gaines said. ‘Once this project is completed, motorists will see congestion delays decrease and drivers will receive the much-needed traffic relief to get to their destinations much faster.’
The overall project began in November, 2006. When completed, the three phases will add carpool and auxiliary lanes in both directions on Interstate 80 from the Sacramento/Placer County line to Highway 65.
In 2007, Assemblyman Gaines fought hard to ensure that the California Transportation Commission allocated the first portion of funds ($4.5 billion) from the voter-approved Proposition 1B Transportation bond to meet the transportation needs of Placer, El Dorado and Sacramento Counties. This resulted in the allocation of $49 million from Proposition 1B funds for the project.
‘For our economy, quality of life and our future, we must invest wisely in our transportation system. With our state facing severe budget challenges, I am especially pleased that the public and private sectors could work together to fund this critical traffic relief project while saving taxpayers millions of dollars,’ Gaines said.
