At 6:37 this morning (Feb 4, 2007) Roseville firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 121 Ash Street. The fire was reported via cell phone by a passerby. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke pouring from the one and one-half story residence. Immediate concern went to potential occupants of the home, but a quick search revealed there was no one home.
The fire was particularly difficult to extinguish as the attic space had been converted to living area, creating several hidden concealed combustible spaces. Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire in approximately 25 minutes.
Responding units consisted of five fire engines, one ladder truck, one ambulance and an incident commander. Cooperating agencies included Roseville Electric and PG & E.
Initial observations indicated the home was vacant at the time of the fire. Although the home was unoccupied at the time, a working smoke detector was present. The exact cause is under investigation.
