Roseville, Calif. – For the 11th consecutive year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) named the Roseville Housing Authority, operated by the City of Roseville, a high performing agency for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. This is HUD’s highest rating available to local housing agencies.
The rating gives the Roseville Housing Authority a competitive advantage in its efforts to bring more federal funds to the Roseville community. Currently, the Roseville Housing Authority provides safe and clean housing for 655 families through rental assistance from the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
“The Housing Choice Voucher Program is our single strongest tool to prevent homelessness in our city,” said Chris Robles, City of Roseville Economic Development Director. “The program brings about $5 million a year to the Roseville economy, an impact that gets multiplied through jobs and further investment.”
Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance participants can also take advantage of the Roseville Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency program. This program provides incentives to maintain employment by offering an interest-bearing savings account with the goal of becoming financially self-sufficient.
A local resident who participated in the program listed some of its benefits. “I explained to my son that our journey to self-reliance began the day I joined the Housing Choice Voucher program,” said the resident. “With the Family Self-Sufficiency program and my savings, we’re well on my way to purchasing a home – our dream! This journey hasn’t been easy, but these programs has undoubtedly been the driving force behind our family’s independence.”
In determining high performing agencies, HUD reviews 14 key indicators of performance to determine whether agencies help eligible families to afford decent rental units at a reasonable subsidy cost as intended by Federal housing legislation. These indicators include timely and efficient qualification processes, ensuring safe and clean housing choices, ensuring proper use of the funds, expanding housing choices and enrolling of families in the Family Self-Sufficiency program.
