Roseville Police Chief to welcome new employees

Roseville, Calif.- Roseville Police Chief Joel Neves will swear in four new police officers and a new community service officer at the department’s next quarterly swearing-in and awards ceremony, to be held at 2 p.m. next Wednesday, July 19, at the Tower Theatre, 417 Vernon St.  The ceremony is open to the public.

Roseville’s City Council has made a safe and healthy community its top priority, and has authorized the hiring of 13 new police officers and eight civilian police employees over the past twelve months. The four new officers will bring Roseville’s sworn officer staffing level to 129. Five additional police officer candidates are in the police academy or in the hiring process.

Kay Sakamoto joined the RPD as a community service officer on July 1. CSO Sakamoto, who earned an associate’s degree in drafting from Sierra College, used to work locally as a design draftsman for Elliott Homes, and as a customer service representative for Fastsigns.

Jeff Beigh, Tait Kjellberg, James Haggerty and Curtis Watkins were originally hired by the RPD as trainee police officers. They became Roseville police officers upon their graduation from the Sacramento Law Enforcement Training Center Basic Police Academy on June 28.

Officer Beigh is a nationally registered paramedic who used to work locally for American Medical Response,  and for the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

Officer Kjellberg holds a bachelor of science degree from UC Davis in wildlife and fisheries biology.  He was previously employed by IBM as an information technology specialist.

Officer Haggerty holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Rhode Island. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a state trooper in the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Officer Watkins holds a bachelor’s degree in communications studies-public relations from CSUS. He also served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and formerly worked as a parking enforcement officer for the Roseville Police Department and a security officer for the Westfield Galleria at Roseville.
