Tahoe Beach Club Groundbreaking: 30 Years in the Making

Stateline, Nev.- The Tahoe Beach Club, a 143 luxury condominium residence on the east shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada, the first full ownership lakefront in 30 years at Tahoe broke ground Monday.

During a beachfront celebration with approximately 150 guests, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval commended the project for its long term environmental and economic benefits.

“This project will complement what the state of Nevada and all of Lake Tahoe is doing to protect this national treasure,” Sandoval said. “… This project is going to prevent thousands of tons of sediment from coming into Lake Tahoe. It’s going to help keep the lake clean. We know this one of the greatest destinations in the country, and in the world, and we want to preserve and protect it.”

The first phase of this urban renewal project, envisioned 14 years ago, will include 48, two-to-five bedroom residences designed to meet LEED certification standards and scheduled for completion in Fall 2017. The beach club was envisioned as a lifestyle development bringing all the amenities and recreation of Lake Tahoe to homeowners.

The 20-acre Tahoe Beach Club site is surrounded by 300 acres of U.S. National Forest meadows to the north, Lake Tahoe beach on the west, and Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Joanne Marchetta, executive director the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, told the gathering that the Tahoe Beach Club was one of the first projects the TRPA approved and became a “kick start” for momentum in Lake Tahoe to upgrade the area’s infrastructure to help meet today’s environmental standards and improve water quality.

“The Tahoe Beach Club is a shining example of environmental redevelopment. Projects like this are contributing to a larger renaissance throughout the region,” Marchetta explained.

Tahoe Beach Club will restore two acres of stream environment zone, originally disturbed by Tahoe’s first airport Sky Harbor in the 1940s, and reduce sediment run-off into Lake Tahoe by approximately 11,000 pounds a year. This complements the Nevada Tahoe Conservancy District’s efforts to restore ecological function to Rabe Meadow within the Burke Creek channel, reduce pollutants into the lake and improve safety in case of a flood.

According to the project’s Environmental Impact Statement finding, the development will also result in a 60 percent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This improvement is the result of the removal of inefficient heaters, wood burning stoves, and poorly insulated structures in the former mobile home park and the replacement with more environmentally sound systems and buildings.

“There are so many improvements in environmental standards compared to 10, 15, or 20 years ago that you can build into a new project that benefit not only the people living there but the lake and the environment,” said CEO of Beach Club Development Bob Mecay. The Kingsbury General Improvement District’s new $19 million water treatment plant was relocated at the back of the property in 2015. The state of the art facility utilizes ultraviolet treatment to the ozone disinfection, which meets Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

Once completed, the Tahoe Beach Club will feature 143 condominium residences and a private Beach Club with all the amenities of a full-service luxury resort. The 45,000 square-foot building, situated just steps from the private sand beach, will house restaurant, Beach Bar & Grill, a yoga and Pilates pavilion, a premier fitness facility, business center, concierge services and a full-service spa. On the surrounding grounds, members, owners and their guests will enjoy a private sand beach with cabanas and fire pits, a 160-foot floating pier, boat valet service and an indoor/outdoor infinity-edge pool overlooking Lake Tahoe.

Reservations are being accepted and interested parties are invited to visit www.theTahoeBeachClub.com.
