Roseville, Calif.- A 19-year-old Sacramento County man is facing up to eight years in a state prison for trying to run over a Roseville policeman with his car after undercover officers closed in on him in a drug bust.
A Placer County trial jury on Jan. 26 found Walter Carrillo guilty of felony assault on a peace officer for trying to strike the officer with his vehicle as he tried to flee from a parking lot at Main Street and Foothills Boulevard in Roseville on the night of March 6, 2009. The officer, who was not in a car, managed to dive out of the way and suffered minor injuries as he landed on the ground.

The jury also found Carrillo guilty of assault on a citizen because he struck a vehicle being driven by a woman as he tried to speed away from the officers. The woman suffered injuries in the incident.
Other felony charges in which Carrillo was found guilty by the jury included resisting a peace officer, hit-and-run driving causing injury, vandalism, possession of illegal drugs and transportation of the drugs for sale.
Placer County Superior Court Judge Mark S. Curry set Carrillo’s sentencing for March 25 at the Auburn Historic Courthouse.
