Woman Pleads Guilty in Roseville Drive by Shooting

An 18-year-old woman entered a plea of no contest today for her role in a drive-by shooting in Roseville that left a 16-year-old boy wounded during a dispute that originated in a restaurant parking lot on Nov. 5, 2008.

Kelsey Mariah Brace of Granite Bay faces between three to four years in state prison when she returns for sentencing before Placer County Superior Court Judge Colleen Nichols on Sept. 29.

She was preceded in a separate matter in the courtroom for her co-defendant, Justin Mathew Wittkop, 19, of Granite Bay, who entered a plea of not guilty to attempted murder, assault with a firearm and related charges. Judge Nichols set Wittkop’s trial for Jan. 11.

Brace entered her pleas of no contest to two charges of assault with a firearm, which will place two felony strikes on her criminal record.

During the drive-by incident, shots were fired at the teenager who was struck as he walked on Sierra College Boulevard near Douglas Boulevard.

A second boy, 17, saw the gun as it was pointed out of the window of the vehicle and dove out of the way.

Under an arrangement reached with the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, Brace must cooperate with police in the investigation of the shooting incident and she is subject to being called as a witness for the prosecution.

Brace was 17 at the time of the shooting incident but was prosecuted as an adult because of the severity of the crime. The 16-year-old boy who was shot  recovered from his wounds.
