Ryan Ronco appointed as Clerk Recorder Registrar

Long-time elections employee appointed to top position

Auburn, Calif. – With Placer County’s elected clerk-recorder-registrar, Jim McCauley, retiring this month, the county board of supervisors voted today to appoint Ryan Ronco to the position.

Ronco has served as assistant recorder-registrar since 2005. He’ll serve as clerk as an appointee until the next election in 2018, when McCauley’s current term would have expired.

“It is an honor to serve the citizens of Placer County in this capacity,” said Ronco. “This is my community; my home. To have this opportunity to be elevated to the pinnacle of my profession here in Placer County is a true privilege.”

Clerk-recorder is an elected position. The recorder’s office is responsible for the recording or filing of documents noticing real estate transactions. It registers all births, deaths and marriages for Placer County, issues marriage licenses, performs marriage ceremonies and records professional registrations. The clerk also oversees Placer’s elections office, including voter registration and administering elections.

“I have been very impressed working with you the last seven and a half years,” District 5 Supervisor Jennifer Montgomery said to Ronco before the board’s vote on his appointment. “What I’ve seen of you and your ability to work with staff and the public has just been phenomenal. I think you’re going to be a really wonderful asset to Placer County.”

Ronco has lived in Placer County for nearly 40 years. He grew up in Loomis and attended Sierra College before graduating from California State University, Sacramento in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government.

Hired as an elections technician by Placer County in 1993, Ronco worked as an administrative technician and administrative services officer before being promoted to assistant registrar of voters in 2001. He became assistant recorder-registrar of voters when the positions were consolidated in 2005. He has administered over 50 federal, state and local elections for the voters of Placer County during his tenure.

Ronco is certified by the California Association of Clerks and Elections Officials as a professional elections administrator. He currently sits on the board of directors for the Placer County Fair Association.
