The Rocklin Police Department, in cooperation with the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and the State Office of Traffic Safety, conducted its second undercover operation in an 18-month program to check, monitor and cite liquor licensees who are caught selling alcoholic beverages unlawfully to minors.
The Rocklin Police Department received a $15,000.00 grant from ABC to fund an 18-month minor decoy program from September 2006 through April 2008. Police officers will directly supervise approved minor decoy operatives as they attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages from retail licensees in the City of Rocklin. The program is intended to alert the public and the liquor licensees of the increased scrutiny by local law enforcement, and in educating young people about the penalties of trying to purchase, possess, or consume alcoholic beverages.
On December 26, 2006, the Rocklin Police Department conducted the second of these undercover operations. Of the 11 businesses approached by the minor decoys, two sold alcoholic beverages to minors. An employee of each business was issued a misdemeanor arrest citation for selling alcohol to minors. Businesses in compliance with the law received a letter from the Rocklin Police Department commending them for their diligence. The two businesses violating the law will have a license review by the State Department of ABC, and sanctions may be taken.
Fifty-eight year old Gurdeep Thind of Roseville was arrested and released on a citation after selling alcohol to a 19-year-old minor decoy at the E-Z Stop Food Store, located at 4439 Rocklin Road.
A Rocklin teenager was also arrested and released on a citation after selling alcohol to a 19-year-old minor decoy at the Safeway Store, located at 4805 Granite Drive.
