Campfire Treats in Rocklin Earns Farm Animal Welfare Certification

Certified by Global Animal Partnership

Rocklin, Calif. – As part of its ongoing commitment to improving farm animal welfare, all-natural dog treat manufacturer Campfire Treats announces it has been certified by Global Animal Partnership (G.A.P.), one of the largest and most comprehensive animal welfare food labeling programs in North America.

Despite glossy images of happy farm animals on green pastures printed on food packaging, the reality is quite different. Most animals raised for meat in the United States are neither raised in species-appropriate environments nor are they treated with the compassion they deserve.

“At Campfire Treats, we believe that loving our dogs should not come at the expense of other animals. We’re therefore proud to exclusively offer G.A.P.-certified chicken and turkey products,” says Campfire Treats’ President and Co-Founder Marko Wittich.

Founded in 2008, Texas-based Global Animal Partnership’s comprehensive standards are developed to allow for continuous improvement in farm animal welfare. The program’s species-specific standards reflect the latest research in agricultural science combined with achievable, practical application for improved welfare for the entire life of the animal. Accredited third-party certifiers audit every single farm every 15 months to ensure compliance with G.A.P. standards.

“Pet owners are shopping for meaningful animal welfare claims. Campfire Treats’ new line of certified single-ingredient dog treats are sourced only from farms and ranches certified to G.A.P. standards. We are excited to partner with Campfire Treats – working together to support farms committed to animal welfare”

Diane McDade, G.A.P.’s Business Development Manager

G.A.P.’s Animal Welfare Certified(tm) labeling system has ascending tiers that offer shoppers unique transparency and is a farm animal welfare certification recognized as meaningful by the ASPCA’s Shop With Your Heart program that connects conscientious consumers to better brands in the marketplace.

“We are thrilled to recognize Campfire Treats’ commitment to a more humane, accountable food system by welcoming them to the ASPCA’s Shop With Your Heart program,” says Nancy Roulston, Senior Director of Corporate Policy & Animal Scientist, ASPCA Farm Animal Welfare, “We know that so many pet owners’ concern for animals includes those raised on farms, and Campfire Treats’ welfare-verified products give those consumers another option in the marketplace.”

Campfire Treats has also signed onto the Better Chicken Commitment in 2021 to publicly commit to using only humanely treated chicken in their products. While this puts them far ahead of most of the pet food industry, the company is committed to continue raising the bar for farm animal welfare for all the meats they procure.
