The night of July 4th was a busy one for the Rocklin Police Department where safe and sane fireworks are legal. Nevertheless, officers responded to 41 calls of possible illegal fireworks activities and cited 5 individuals for possession of illegal fireworks.
The fireworks calls to the Rocklin Police Department Dispatch Center varied, started at around 7:00 PM, and went until midnight. Some callers stated that they saw “bottle rockets” being set off. Other callers said that groups of juveniles were lighting off fireworks and the callers were concerned for safety reasons.
Officers responded to each call and were, for the most part, able to contact the revelers. Most of the fireworks that were inspected were indeed of the safe and sane variety.
Of the 5 individuals cited for possession of illegal fireworks, 4 were adults. They all were cited for 12677 Health and Safety Code which is a misdemeanor. The maximum penalty is a fine of not more than $1000.00 or jail time of not more than 6 months.
“The Rocklin Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney take the possession of illegal fireworks very seriously. Those cited will have to appear in criminal court later this month,” said Detective Sergeant Lon Milka
