Jessup’s Give: 24 demonstrates the value of community partnerships

Record-breaking results of $188,420

Rocklin, Calif. – On March 24, Jessup University’s annual Give:24 digital day of giving event partnered this year with local Rocklin business RC Willey. The furniture giant generously agreed to donate a couch at a reduced price for every $250 raised toward the student government initiative that will allow the growing campus community to upgrade furniture in common spaces. In the end, $1,250 was raised enabling students to purchase five couches at a discounted rate.

“We were thrilled to learn that RC Willey wanted to partner with us on our student-led initiatives,” said Jessup’s Director of Donor Development, Heather Jones. “This speaks to the impact local businesses can have on our community and demonstrates to our students that their efforts are making a tangible difference.”

Jessup’s student government decided the furniture would be the objective they wanted represented during the 12th annual Give: 24 event. Upgrading the furniture was one of eight initiatives the university raised funds for. Other projects included student scholarships, Alzheimer’s research, pastoral conferences, veterans mental wellness, Jessup’s music program, athletics and specific scholarships aimed at first-generation college students, foster youth, single parents and minority students. The overall total raised for all initiatives combined delivered record-breaking results of $188,420.

“This is one of those projects we couldn’t do without the help of our treasured students,” Jones said. Each initiative is led by a specific student dedicated to the cause. Throughout the day, updates were provided on Jessup’s website and through social media platforms. Students, faculty, staff and friends of Jessup are encouraged to ask 24 of their friends to give $24 within a 24-hour period, albeit on the 24th of March as well. Making a donation supports these student-led projects and ensures students have the resources and programs they need to become equipped to make a difference in their families, communities and future workplaces.

“Since our beginnings, we have always tried to give back to the community and supporting teachers and students is at the heart of our efforts,” said RC Willey’s Public Relations and Social Media Coordinator, Brynna Willardson. “We believe education is important, and hope to aid that in whatever way we can. In this case, we were excited to donate couches to students for the freshman dorms. We believe that home should be your sanctuary, and for students, their dorm is a home away from home. We felt it was important to create a space for students to feel comfortable at school, relax after a long day and create a cozy environment that encourages their efforts to study or connect with peers. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the next generation!”
