On March 26th at about 4:30 PM Rocklin Police responded to the area of the EZ Stop at 3700 Midas Ave when the owner of the market reported that he had refused to sell alcohol to a man who he thought was intoxicated. The man left in a vehicle which was later located by officers.
Police were called to the area of the market because the store owner called the Rocklin Dispatch center after a male subject tried to buy alcohol and was refused. The subject left the store, got into a silver-colored GMC SUV, and drove away. The owner was able to provide a vehicle description to dispatchers who then put the information out of the police radio.
Rocklin Police officers located the vehicle almost immediately and pulled the driver over. The officers noticed that the driver displayed signs of alcohol intoxication, i.e., bloodshot and watery eyes, and the heavy odor of alcohol. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Joshua Westmoreland, 33 years, of Rocklin, was arrested and booked into Placer County Jail.
“The store owner did everything right,” said Lieutenant Lon Milka. “He refused to sell alcohol to someone he believed intoxicated. He gave a description of the subject and of subject’s vehicle to police dispatch. Because of this timeliness, we were able to locate and apprehend the subject.”
