Roseville fugitive was out on bail prior to fleeing
On Friday, October 28, 2011, FBI agents in New York City arrested fugitive Patrick Gregory Baccari, 32, of Roseville. Baccari was out on $50,000 bail while standing trial for rape charges, which occurred in early 2009 in the City of Rocklin.
Baccari’s arrest comes 13 days after he fled Placer County during a weekend break of a trial where he was being prosecuted by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office. He was also being charged with burglary and assault with the intent to commit rape during the commission of a first-degree burglary.
Patrick Baccari left California on October 16, 2011 traveling to Philadelphia and Pennsylvania; he eventually ended up New York City. When Baccari failed to show up for court on October 17 as ordered, the Judge issued a no bail warrant for his arrest. Investigators from the Rocklin Police Department and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office were able to show that Baccari had fled the state voluntarily and the trial continued in his absence. On October 19, 2011, Patrick Gregory Baccari was convicted of four of the six felony charges he was accused of.
Once it was determined Baccari had fled the state to avoid prosecution, Investigators turned to the FBI for assistance. The FBI was able to obtain a no bail Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) warrant for the arrest of Baccari which would allow the use of Federal resources to assist in his capture.
After being on the run for almost two weeks, Rocklin Police Detectives, Placer County District Attorney Investigators and FBI Agents were able to determine that Baccari was in New York City. Once Baccari’s location was identified, FBI agents in New York City were able to apprehend him within a few hours.
Patrick Baccari now faces extradition to California and he will be sentenced in Placer County Court on November 4, on the original charges for which he was convicted last week. In addition, Baccari now faces additional charges for failing to appear in court during his trial.
