Sierra Athletics Making Noise in the Postseason

Success Highlights in the Postseason

Rocklin, Calif. – After capturing five Big 8 Conference titles and a runner-up finish, the Sierra College athletic department has continued its dominance in the postseason.

The men’s swim and dive team won its third straight Big 8 title then earned a second place finish at the state meet. Head coach Chris Breitbart was named co-Men’s Team Coach of the Year in the State. The women’s swim and dive team also had a three-peat in the Big 8, moving on to finish 5th in state.

The Sierra softball team (37-7) has piled up 21 wins in its last 22 games, including four straight in the postseason, to reach the CCCAA State Championships. Sierra, affectionately known as the “dirty dozen”, advanced to second round and finished as one of the top 6 teams in the State.

The men’s golf team reached the CCCAA state championship tournament at Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta, CA. The Wolverines combined to shoot a two-round, 36-hole team score of 762, good for 4th place at the NorCal Championships at Madera’s Dragonfly Golf Club.

In just its second season, the Sierra women’s track team qualified an athlete for the state meet. Distance runner Jasmine Napeñas finished fifth in the 10,000-meter event at NorCal Trials and 11th in the State.

After downing Mission College in the Super Regionals, the Sierra baseball team advanced to the NorCal finals and ended the season with a 35-12 record.

The beach volleyball team advanced all five of its pairs to the NorCal Championships and two of those pairs, Sara Schell and Savanah Schroeder and Meghan Merlino and Kalala Strickland, qualified for the state championships. Schell and Schroeder reached the Elite 8 in the pairs tournament. As a team, the Wolverines also qualified for the State Championships as the NorCal No. 1 seed.
