Sierra College Patrons Install Slate of Officers

Support group of the Sierra College Foundation

Rocklin, CA -The Sierra College Patrons, a support group of the Sierra College Foundation, used their last general meeting of the academic year to install a new slate of officers to lead the volunteer group through the 2018 – 2019 academic year and to further advance their philanthropic work.

At a meeting held on Monday, June 4 at a private home in Lincoln, CA, more than 35 Sierra College Patrons gathered to remember the achievements of the year just past, to welcome their new officers, and to look forward to new challenges and accomplishments.

The new slate of officers includes: President, Julie Stringham; 1st Vice President, Maureen Spell; 2nd Vice President, Barbara Mortkowitz; Treasurer, Sharon Donaldson; Recording Secretary, Barbara Vineyard; Corresponding Secretary, Betty Wall; Parliamentarian, JoAnn Cookman. Officiating over the installation of officers was Rebecca Bocchicchio, Sierra College Vice President of Instruction.

Philanthropic work

In the past year Patrons have donated more than $12,000 to Sierra College programs and students. Among the items funded were Professional Make-up Kits for the Theatre Arts Department; advanced language learning materials for the ESL department; a grant for students of the Umoja Learning Community to purchase textbooks; a “tech-free” table so visual art students can verbally communicate their ideas; a grant toward the publication costs of the Sierra Journal which chronicles the artistic and literary works of selected Sierra students from the past academic year; and more than $2,800 in grants to individual students.

Monthly Meetings

The Patrons regular monthly meetings will resume on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room in building J on campus. Those interested in becoming members are invited to attend. Lunch, which is optional is $11.00 and a reservation is required. There is a $3.00 fee for parking on campus. Those wishing to reserve a place at the September meeting may do so by calling Joan Edwards at 916-663-3408.

About the Sierra College Patrons

Formed in 1984, the Patrons provide financial support to the Arts and Humanities departments at Sierra College. Grants may be awarded during the year to enhance the services offered by academic departments and social programs on campus as well as to reward and recognize individual students for their artistic and academic achievements. Since its inception, the Patrons have donated more than $360,000 to Sierra College affecting and improving all aspects of campus life.

Sierra College Rocklin Campus is located at 5100 Sierra College Boulevard, Rocklin, California 95677. Building J is most easily accessed from the Rocklin Road entrance to the campus. There is a $3 parking fee on campus. Parking permits are available at machines located in each parking lot.
