Rocklin, Calif.- In an effort to reduce collisions and make city streets safer, the Rocklin Police Department will add a new intersection to the Red Light Photo Enforcement Program. On June 6th, 2008, cameras and violation sensors that monitor the intersection of Rocklin Road and Interstate 80 will become operational. The camera will monitor W/B Rocklin Road traffic at the on-ramp and off-ramp from W/B Interstate 80.
The program is seen as an important step to improve the safety and flow of local traffic. However, the Rocklin Police Department is giving drivers a 30-day warning period at this intersection before actual citations are issued, during which time we will issue only Warning Notices. The Notices will explain that beginning July 7th, 2008, actual citations will be sent to violators, who will then be responsible for paying the fine listed on the citation.
The Red Light Enforcement Program was approved by the Rocklin City Council in 2005 and our first camera was placed at the intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Park Ave in 2006. In 2007, there were 1,074 red light violations captured by the camera and 765 of those violators received citations. The new camera at Rocklin Road and Interstate 80 will be the second intersection in the City of Rocklin.
The City of Rocklin’s Red Light Photo Enforcement Program is administered by Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc., an Arizona-based provider of traffic safety photo enforcement. Redflex is contracted to provide similar successful programs in Arizona, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Ohio, and Oregon.
