Crash on Woodcreek Oaks Blvd leaves one dead

Roseville, Calif. – At 11:38 a.m. Thursday, September 16, a Roseville Police officer saw a red Audi roadster being driven at a high rate of speed on westbound Blue Oaks Boulevard from Washington Boulevard towards Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.  Officers signaled for the driver to stop, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed, turning south onto Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.

The Audi driver approached Horncastle Avenue, driving in the opposing lane of traffic, and collided head-on with a 2006 Honda Odyssey mini-van driven by a 39-year-old woman,  a daycare provider from Roseville.  Safely secured in car seats in the back seats of the mini-van were the four children she was caring for, a four-year old boy, a three-year-old girl, a two-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.

Paramedics pronounced the Audi driver, Calvin Lee Tooker, 28, of Roseville,  dead at the scene.  The car he was driving, a 2002 Audi roadster, had been reported stolen the previous evening from a Roseville used car lot.  The mini-van driver and her four child passengers were transported by ambulance to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.  The mini-van driver had been wearing her seat belt, and the children were all properly secured in their safety seats, which likely saved their lives.

The collision is under investigation by the Roseville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.  Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard remains closed to traffic  from Horncastle Avenue to Crimson Ridge Way during the scene investigation, and is expected to reopen by 9 p.m. today.
