Placer County Health and Human Services is offering free flu shots next week, another opportunity for residents to protect their health and the health of family members.
Flu season typically stretches into the spring, so there is still time to get vaccinated and be protected for the remainder of the season. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has recommended that flu vaccinations continue through May.
Free county-sponsored flu shot clinics are planned in two locations:
Tuesday, January 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Multipurpose Senior Center at 11577 E Avenue, in the Placer County Government Center in Auburn;
Wednesday, January 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Roseville, 110 Park Drive in Royer Park.
Every year, more than 225,000 people are hospitalized and more than 35,000 die in the United States due to influenza and its complications, noted Dr. Mark Starr, Director of Community Health and Clinics.
Flu shots help protect the health of people of all ages, but are especially important to the elderly and people of any age who have chronic illnesses.
However, other people who may need flu shots are pregnant women, children six months to 18 years of age, and people who care for young children or chronically ill adults,Ó he said.
Best advice to protect yourself your family and friends including young children and get vaccinated.
Adults aged 50 or older, health care workers, people who care for adults at high risk of flu complications, residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are also considered at higher risk and encouraged to get flu shots.
The County has plenty of vaccine to immunize anyone who wishes to have a flu shot.
