Roseville firefighters responded to a vehicle accident on Interstate 80 at 12:19 on Sunday. While enroute fire crews were informed that someone was trapped and the vehicle was on fire. The first due fire captain quickly upgraded the response to an extrication assignment. Roseville Police officers assisted by clearing traffic, which helped fire crews respond without delay.
The first arriving firefighters quickly went to work applying water and foam, keeping the gasoline fed fire in check and away from the occupant. Additional firefighters arrived shortly after and extricated the occupant from the vehicle.

A truck driver had stopped and rendered assistance prior to the fire department’s arrival. He sustained minor burn injuries in an attempt to pull the patient free of the burning vehicle. While attempting to extinguish the fire with a portable fire extinguisher, the truck driver also broke out all of the vehicle windows which aided in providing clean air to the trapped patient.
The trapped driver sustained minor to moderate injuries, including minor burns.
Incidents such as this one often end in tragedy. Fortunately, due to cooperative efforts of firefighters, police officers, dispatchers and a Good Samaritan, this story had a positive outcome.
