NEC donates 200,000 to Roseville’s REACH Fund

NEC Electronics America, Inc. last night presented to the City Council the first installment of a $200,000 donation to the City of Roseville’s REACH Fund. REACH is a community-giving fund to help local charitable organizations that serve youth, seniors and families in South Placer County.  The REACH Fund, (Roseville Employees Annual Charitable Hearts) was established with donations from employees and retirees and also accepts private donations from individuals and businesses.

With its headquarters based in Santa Clara, Calif., and manufacturing facility based in Roseville, NEC Electronics America employs 800 at its Roseville site and has a tradition of giving back to the community. The company’s donation was presented by Gabe Kim, vice president and general manager of manufacturing operations, and will be distributed over four years starting in 2008.

‘NEC Electronics America is pleased to give back to the community in which we have operated since 1982,’ Kim said. ‘The REACH program is an excellent one, and we value our long-standing relationship with the City of Roseville.’

‘NEC Electronics America has been a long-time partner in helping foster economic prosperity in Roseville, and a leader in helping build a better community,’ said Roseville City Manager W. Craig Robinson. ‘This donation will  boost our efforts to assist nonprofit organizations and worthwhile causes through REACH. It’s a very generous commitment.’

NEC Electronics America joins other businesses making multi-year commitments to the REACH Fund, including the Roseville Automall (totaling $250,000), Westfield Galleria at Roseville (totaling $50,000) and First Northern Bank (totaling $15,000).

Since it was established in 2003, REACH has received pledges of more than $650,000 and distributed $270,000 in grants. In addition to REACH, the City’s Citizens Benefit Fund (CBF) was founded in 1994, and has awarded grants to local nonprofit organizations from interest earned on the invested proceeds from the sale of the former Roseville Community Hospital.  The City has awarded more than $10.8 million from the CBF since its inception.

Funds from CBF and REACH are awarded during the City’s annual Grants Advisory Commission (GAC) ceremony each year after an application process. At last July’s event, the City awarded $641,431 to 41 community nonprofit organizations.
