At 7:30 a.m. Dec 21st, emergency personnel from the city of Roseville Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment located at 8000 Painted Desert Way in Roseville. First arriving units found smoke coming from an apartment located on the third floor of a large apartment complex. Upon entering the apartment unit, fire crews found an extinguished fire in the bedroom. Heat from the small fire caused a sprinkler head to activate thus extinguishing the fire. Damage was contained to a single bedroom in the large complex.
The single occupant of the apartment unit was awakened by the smoke detector and was able to exit on his own. “This man was very lucky today. Had there not been a smoke detector and fire sprinklers in the his apartment, we may have had a devestating outcome”, stated Fire Chief Ken Wagner.
Firefighters worked diligently to protect the property of all occupants of the effected building. Prior to the Fire Department leaving the scene most residents were allowed to return to their homes. The American Red Cross was called in to help provide assistance to the occupant of the burned apartment unit.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
