Roseville, Calif.- After a closed-session meeting this morning, the Roseville City Council announced its selection of Ray Kerridge as the City’s next city manager.
In accordance with the City’s charter, formal appointment will come with approval of a contract. The terms of his contract, including compensation and start date, are under negotiation and expected to be brought to City Council its next regularly scheduled public meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 19.
Kerridge’s selection, which was decided on a 4-1 vote, concludes an extensive six-month nationwide search that attracted an extraordinary field of 63 applicants, mostly from throughout California. The Council’s selection process began in November, as it gathered input from employees and community members on the profile of an ideal candidate. And it continued through today, including several rounds of interviews and extensive screening to narrow the field over the past few months.
After 25 years in Portland with the Bureau of Development Services, the City of Sacramento hired Kerridge in 2004 as assistant city manager. In February 2006, he was appointed city manager, a position he held for four years until his resignation this February. He accepted a position in the private sector, but has said that his passion remains with the public sector.
“To have this opportunity in a city as dynamic as Roseville is a privilege,” said Kerridge. “My heart is on the public side, so I am excited to join this winning team and to have an impact during this transformative time.” The City of Roseville is unique in the Sacramento region since it is the only city that owns its own electric, water, wastewater and solid waste utilities. With a population of 118,000, Roseville’s total operating budget in Fiscal Year 2010 was $447 million, including its general fund and enterprise funds.
