On Monday, October 6, a 37-year-old Tennessee man was convicted in a federal court in Memphis, Tennessee of nine counts of violation of federal law pertaining to crimes against children. The federal prosecution was initiated after a 2005 arrest by the Roseville Police Department, and a joint investigation by the Roseville Police Department and the Memphis area Crimes Against Children Task Force, comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On September 18, 2005, Roseville Police detectives arrested Daniel Scott Ogden, then 34, of Memphis, for unlawful sexual relations with a 16-year-old Roseville girl. Ogden was suspected of developing a relationship with the girl over the Internet over a six-month period, then traveling to northern California to meet her. The girl’s parents discovered the relationship and notified Roseville Police. Roseville detectives investigated and subsequently arrested Ogden.
Ogden remained in the Placer County Jail until February 27, 2006, when he was turned over to the Memphis division of the FBI for federal prosecution on nine counts related to the interstate enticement of a minor for the purpose of having sex, production or possession of child pornography, receipt of child pornography, and conspiracy. Ogden was tried in the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennesee in Memphis, and on October 6 the jury returned a guilty verdict.
Sentencing will take place in 30 days, unless Odgen files an appeal.
