The City of Roseville”s Environmental Utilities Department has received a $5.7 million grant award from the California Department of Water Resources to help fund ongoing water infrastructure improvements.
The grant funding was secured through the Regional Water Authority, and funding came from voter-approved Proposition 50 funds; the grant will help cover construction costs for Roseville’s Water Treatment Plant expansion and the Woodcreek North Aquifer Storage and Recovery Well project.
Grant funds are being used to build water storage and treatment capacity in support of the concept of conjunctive use, which is a strategically managed use of surface and ground water supplies. The water treatment plant, located in Granite Bay, has recently been expanded from a treatment capacity of 60 million gallons per day (MGD) to 100 MGD.
The addition of the Woodcreek North Aquifer Storage and Recovery well will allow the city to expand its ability to store drinking water in the ground during times of plentiful supply for extraction during droughts. This Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) well is the second in the city.
