Roseville Electric was honored October 18 by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) for its role in creating a 635-home solar community in Roseville.
SEPA selected Roseville Electric for its Development of Solar Community Award for its leadership in new solar home developments. Earlier this year, Lennar homes announced it was participating in Roseville Electric’s Preferred Diamond Homes program and building 635 of its new ‘Solar Plus’ homes in the West Roseville Specific Plan Area.

Roseville Electric anticipates reduced energy demand from the new Lennar project, when compared to new homes without the upgraded features.
The reduction in energy means Roseville Electric will not need to buy as much electricity on hot summer days which is good for all of its 49,000 customers. By reducing energy consumption, Lennar homeowners could save up to 40 percent in their electric energy costs.

The Preferred Diamond Homes program requires builders to increase the home energy efficiency beyond the current Title 24 standards and integrate solar tiles into the roof. For their participation in Preferred Diamond program, Lennar is eligible for a rebate from Roseville Electric of up to $8,500 per home.
‘I am proud to live in a community that encourages and rewards using alternative energy sources, like solar, in new home construction, said Mayor Gina Garbolino. ‘This program is good for everyone it’s good for our customers, it helps us keep our energy costs down and it’s good for our environment.’
The amount of photovoltaic energy generated by the Lennar homes is equivalent to taking 200 cars off the road for one year or planting 435,000 trees. The amount of gas emissions that will be avoided is 2.3 million pounds.
Roseville Electric believes Lennar’s participation in the program will inspire other builders to consider including these measures into their future new home projects too. Already, Roseville Electric has been approached by two other builders about the program.
